JICA-Sponsored Agricultural Extension Worker Trained in Japan’s Rice Production Model

Abubacarr Bah, an extension worker in Central River Region (CRR) South, organized a field demonstration exercise on seedling age and transplanting density using a rice variety called SAHEL 134. This initiative was supported by the P2-P2RS and GIRAV projects.

The event attracted senior government officials, directors, project officers, unit heads from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security, and most importantly members of the farming community. These officials expressed their appreciation to Abubacarr for conducting a step-down demonstration of the new rice production model in the country. They promised to institutionalize this initiative across the sector and encouraged other extension agents to follow his example, as the ministry, along with its line departments, will be sending out additional trainees in the future.

Additionally, a field visit to the demonstration plots was conducted, where Abubacarr highlighted the process of the field trial on seedling age and transplanting density. The session was attended by delegates, including the governor of CRR, DPS Sanyang, and local farmers. Several questions were raised during the session, and Abubacarr responded to them accordingly.
