The number one stable food of the Gambia is undoubtedly rice. The country is heavily bless with abundant fresh water and fertile land capable of meeting the rice need of the country if everything played out well. However, the Gambia has never been able to actualize this important milestone. It is important to state that Government cannot singlehandedly achieve food self sufficiency without the intervention of the private sector. In the Gambia, since independence private sector has yet to assume an active role in agriculture.
